Daniel Doyle Pleasantville Discusses the Best Smartphone Cameras on the Market Right Now

By Seanseshadritech · September 11, 2019

Triple and quad lenses, powerful software enhancements and improved low-light shooting are hallmarks of the new cell phones for 2019.

In order to evaluate the pack of new cell phones and their capabilities as cameras, we spoke with photographer Daniel Doyle Pleasantville. Doyle grew a successful photography studio business for himself in the Queens area of New York by creating unique photographs of local entertainers. He also is a wedding and event photographer and is opening a new studio in his hometown of Pleasantville, Ohio. Doyle received his bachelor’s degree at Ohio State University. He trains new photographers to build their own successful businesses.

The following are some of the best smart phone cameras on the market today.

Huawei 30 Pro

The Huawei 30 Pro has a quad lens that allows it to zoom and to capture low-light photos with ease. The front display is just under 6.5 inches. CNET was impressed with the four different lenses to choose from. There is a 40-megapixel lens, a 20-megapixel lens that has a wide-angle, a square lens that is there to help with zooming and an 8-megapixel lens.

The Huawei also has powerful image stabilization and low-light capability. In fact, the CNET reviewer was astounded that the Huawei could take images when it was really too dark for his eyes. Low-light pictures are so good because of an advanced image sensor and the use of a high ISO when shooting in such conditions. The caveat is that the phone will only take impressive low-light pictures when there is a bit of some kind of lighting on the scene, such as street lights.

Google Pixel 3

CNET found the Pixel 3 to have an amazing camera for a budget phone. The Pixel 3 shines because of its improved hardware over its predecessor and through the use of AI. The phone can suggest the best photo from different exposures. Their phone also uses multiple pictures to create a zoom. There are dual lenses that allow for better depth and width presented in each photo. Low-light photography has also been enhanced in a software release. The rear 12.2-megapixel lens can take great portraits and take in a wider background for those portraits than most phones.

Apple iPhone XS Max

Tom’s Guide reports that Apple beefed up the sensor over last year’s phone in order to admit 50 percent more light. This improves low-light pictures. The new phone’s sensor and software algorithms allow better views of details and better presentation of highlights. There is a new feature that allows the user to adjust the shot’s depth of field after the shot has been taken.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus

Tom’s Guide found the S10 Plus to be the best of the phones with three cameras. They found the rear 16-megapixel lens that is an ultra-wide to be particularly impressive in gathering more detail from a shot. Added to the wide-angle lens is a 12-megapixel primary lens as well as a 12-megapixel telephoto lens. There is a software-driven processor that can help the user get the best settings from their cell phone camera. There are more effects available to allow users to get higher quality portraits.

Overall, Daniel Doyle Pleasantville is absolutely floored by the amazing features in such small lens combinations these new round of cell phone cameras possess. He also loves how the pictures are augmented through the software to allow the user to easily create high-powered scenes with stunning depth and detail
