Women Shaking Up The Tech Industry

By Seanseshadritech · August 13, 2019

Once only considered a man’s world, women have finally made their mark in the field of technology. What’s even more impressive is that these females aren’t just sitting behind a desk typing code.

They are female entrepreneurs who are changing the way we live. From modeling kits to drones to building empires from the comfort of their own homes, like Chrissy Weems, here are six women you need to know.

Ayah Bdeir

Used by kids, educators and even hobbyists, Little Bits Electronics has earned over 60 million for its pre-assembled electronic components that snap together with tiny color-coded magnets. In addition, Bdeir’s prototyping products have also found a home in New York’s Museum of Modern Art.

Jessica Matthews

As a dual citizen of the United States and Nigeria, Matthews developed technology that not only generates energy but can also be embedded in objects we use every day, such as strollers. This innovative company now has 15 patents and investors include the prestigious Kapor Capital. This is one leader who knows how to make things happen.

Helen Greiner

As a co-founder of iRobot, the same company that created the revolutionary Roomba that cleans your home for you, Helen Greiner is also the founder of CyPhy Works. She raised over $35 million to create drones for personal, industrial, and even military use. In September 2018, CyPhy works also started collaborating with UPS and the American Red Cross to test the efficacy of drones in disaster relief efforts.

Elina Berglund

After Swedish-born Elina Berglund completed her Ph.D. as an engineering physicist, she went on to create an algorithm that can identify the window of fertility, making it possible for women to track their most fertile periods and become pregnant. Natural Cycles is now used by 900,000 women in over 200 countries. To date, the app has raised a whopping $37.5 million with no end in sight.

Chantelle Bell

Syrona Women’s Co-Founder Chantelle Bell, along with fellow founder Anya Roy, met while both were attending Cambridge University. Together, this dynamic duo created a device that allows women to test for cervical cancer at home. Syrona has won numerous awards including ones from Bethnal Green Ventures and AccelerateHER Scotland. This female-driven startup has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to make their dream a reality.

Chrissy Weems

Chrissy Weems is one lady who knows how to make her dreams come true. This one-time stay-at-home-mom is paving the way for others to make a name for themselves, all from the comfort of their homes. Origami Owl, which was once only an idea to help her daughter purchase a car, has now become a lucrative business known globally.

With the help of her friends, who are also co-founders, Chrissy transformed her dream into a reality. With passion and unrelenting commitment, Origami Owl continues to thrive while making charitable contributions to the causes the company holds most dear.

Things to Think About

Long gone are the days where a woman’s place is only in the kitchen. Women have, and continue to make a name for themselves in every sector of the business world. And with 2020 right around the corner, waiting to see what these successful entrepreneurs will do is worth waiting for
